Day 1 of 108 ~ Don't Laugh!

This is the 3rd time I am starting again. It's pretty funny actually. I seem to only be able to make about 10 days or so before the 'fruity-leafy' train derails. This time it was at aValentine's day party, last time it was gourmet raw with my sister, & I don't even remember what it was the time before that! Oh, wait, there was no third time before that, this is the third start. Am I going crazy? ..It doesn't matter. I will keep starting over until I make 108 days of fruits & leaves (& anything else that is on the plan). My goal is to train my taste buds to crave (& train my mind to chose!) what I know works best for my body. Everything I wrote down on the original fruits & leaves post is what works best for me. When I eat those things everyday, I feel fabulous! When I eat other things, I start to crave more of them & before you know it, I'm no longer eating what works & feel blah. I know I have to clear out & keep clear (-because when you still have the other things in your system, you'll continue to crave them) & get consistent about my choices. More consistent then 10 days, more like 100. We will see how I feel about it all after I make my goal. I'll continue to push ahead even if it takes me all year. Plus, what difference does it make? I plan on eating like this for life! I can work on 108 fruity-leafy days forever! Sounds good to me. -Yay!

Today I ate:
Lots of grapefruits & oranges
Canistel smoothie (frozen canistel blended with water)
Green leaf lettuce & tomato salad with oregano-sage dressing

Little note:
The next post will be for 5 days. What I ate this Wednesday through Sunday. I have a big work deadline this week that I have to focus on. So I'll fill you in on all the eats on Monday. The goal is fruits & leaves! (....& getting work done for Monday)♥ Xo!

Warm Winter Day

Last night's choices were not the best. But I had a great day & ate lots of tasty food. So no complaints from me. Just better choices & back to eating before sundown. Lately I've been eating too late in the day. That also leads to poor choices I feel. Staying hydrated, eating lots of sweet fruits for breakfast & not eating after dark keep me on track. Usually. -I just need to do it! I've been a little all over the place lately (with my eating times, work schedule & hours logged sleeping), I can see that I need to reel myself back in. It's all part of the process. As long as I'm learning & improving gradually, it's all good. Working on my health, fitness & diet little by little has changed my life for the better. Good habits stay, & bad ones gently fall away... (-but it takes time).

Today I ate;
Soaked organic prunes & their soak water
Red leaf salad with zucchini noodles, chopped veg fruits & mixed-herb sauce on top

People have brought me so much sunshine & love lately. This has been the warmest winter ever! Life has been so much fun. Extra special thanks to my good friend HippieMom for sharing her Sunshine Award with me. I am supposed to pass it on to other bloggers. I'm not sure what kind of blogger they have to be, but I'll just tell you who inspires me or who I've been following for a few years.

Here is the list....
A Good Look
Garance Dore
The Sartorialist
Coco Bula
Gala Darling
Orange Juice Girl
Croqué Cru (-also called Bliss Food in English)
& ...of course, HippieMom's blog! The Raw Journal -Xo!

Happy LOVE Day! :) Enjoy the LOVE. Xx..

Today I ate: (several times!)
Super yummy salad of mixed lettuces, chopped mixed veggie fruits & raw zucchini noodles with fresh oregano-basil dressing.

Update : I blew it tonight! Ate Valentine treats at a party. They were cooked grain based desserts. Yikes. I think if I would have had sweet fruits on the menu today, I would have not gone for them. They didn't even look that good. It was the sweet part that was calling me. Had I had oranges or a banana smoothie, my brain wouldn't have been tempted. I'm pretty sure of it. *Note to self: eat sweet fruits or be tempted by sweet treats!

Day 10 of 108

Today was another amazing day. True story.

This morning I woke up feeling run down. Had a slight cough, sore throat & a funny sounding voice. I don't think that I am sick, just over doing it lately. Taking on more than I should & packin' my days to the brim with stuff I like & want to do. Plain & simple, I've been over doing it & my body wants rest. Anyway, I decided that it wasn't a good idea being out in the cold all afternoon & didn't make it to the brunch I had scheduled. It was quite disappointing. I was lying in bed thinking, "I sure would like some durian". After that, I got up & started to eat some of my lovely red grapefruits. (-So good & juicy! No complaints at all.) As I was eating the phone rang. It was a friend of mine calling out of the blue. They asked what my favorite fruit was & said they would bring it over for me. I said, "What? Are you serious?" (This person lives in mid-town Manhattan & I live in Brooklyn.) I also said that I would love some durian, but you can only find it Chinatown. They said, "OK, no problem, see you in an hour!" (Is this for real? Why is everyone being so nice to me lately?) They did find the durian. (-Yay!) They also found some starfruit & cherries that they were excited about (-& I was too!). We had a lovely fruity morning together. We had a blast! My dull run-down morning turned into an exotic feast! After they left I felt totally energized, ..& I sounded less funny & more like more regular self. I felt so loved. :) Life can be so much fun when you just watch it happen. I've heard many successful & inspirational people say that when you find your path or stay true to who you are, miracles happen. The world opens up to you. You experience more & more synchronicity. You also get more of what you are about. I guess I've been thinking lots about fruit. -Cause that is what I'm gettin' lately! Pretty amazing.

Today  I ate:
Red grapefruit
Durian, starfruit & cherries! (Gift from a friend. -Thank you! :) Xx..)
Zesty spinach soup

*Zesty Spinach Raw Soup Recipe* (makes 3 servings)
Put the following in the blender; first add 3-4 medium size vine ripe tomatoes chopped & the juice of a lemon (maybe only 1/2, depending on how zippy you want your soup), 1 jalapeno pepper (I like it HOT, maybe only 1/4 would be better for those that aren't as crazy as me, - Or maybe none! Depends on how hot you like it), loads of spinach if you like it like I do (or just 2 cups will do), 2 small-medium sized yellow squashes chopped, a few whole scallions without the roots, a few garlic cloves & 1/2 an avocado (you can add more if you like a creamy soup). Then blend it all until smooth. You can add a little chopped scallion, tomato & squash on top for color & texture. I eat the soup with a spoon, but I also eat it with romain heart leaves whole, dipped in for fun!
:)

Day 9 of 108

Well, it happened. The grocer kept his word & sold me three cases of citrus at cost. No mark-up or profit. What a sweetheart! I'm so grateful. Today I brought home 150 pounds of fruit! -Crazy.

Seeing the color of this much fruit is such a treat. The neon orange tangelos, pinkish-yellow grapefruits & the classic orange oranges are a feast for my eyes. Mmmm....

I'm not sure if I will stick to my idea of all citrus for several weeks. Feeling like my leafy greens & fruits for 108 days is enough of a plan for now. Kinda of want to just leave it at that & eat plenty of citrus or all citrus as my heart calls for it. (-I have plenty here!) Plus, I have two parties to go to this weekend. Both are  raw friendly & fruity. One is a Haiti fundraiser event on Saturday & the other is a Valentines Day party on Sunday. So I'll just bring some citrus with me, but if they have other fruits I want to have, I may have some. I'm going to play it by ear. We'll see...

Day 8 of 108

You will not believe.
I am trying to work out a new lifestyle this year. The plan is to order bigger seasonal fruits in bulk (like oranges, melon, cucumbers, etc.) & to grow my own micro greens & lettuces, edible flowers, bulb veggies, tomatoes & peppers throughout the year. No more big shopping trips (& bills) & complex meals made at home. I've had this idea for the past month or so, & I already canceled my membership to my food coop (that I was a member of for 10 years!) 2 weeks ago. I felt like if I had it while I was creating this switch, I would never switch! Anyway, today I spoke to a local grocer (who I know from the neighborhood) & he said that he would order whatever fruits I needed by the case & would tell me what is good & what is in season. He also said that he would not charge me more than what the growers are charging him. (-What? Really?) I know how much it costs wholesale, cause I looked into it. He also confirmed it & showed my his paperwork from the distributer. I ordered 3 cases today; grapefruits, tangelos & tangerines. My fingers are crossed that this works out. Either way I'm happy about it. If he really gives me a wholesale price (& he knows I will be buying weekly/monthly) that would be a miracle, & if he charges me a bit more, that would be a blessing too! He said that he just wants to help me out & that it is no trouble for him. Wow. OK. I'm just happy to have a local person working with me on this new plan. (One block form my house, my coop was a 30 minute walk! This is a huge difference for someone with no car that buys loads of heavy fruit.) It makes me feel like if you really want to make a change, the universe supports you. But you have to make the first step. Amazing.

Day 7 of 108

Absolute bliss.
Today I had yogi tea, lemon water, pomelos, tangelos, grapefruits & lots of orange wedges. The day flowed effortlessly. Funny thing is, there is a blizzard happening & I had not stocked up on fruits for this citrus diet I want to try for the next few weeks. (I was down to 4 small tangelos & a few lemons, nothing else.) Produce deliveries were canceled for today & could not be delivered because of the snow, so I wasn't able to place my bulk order like I had planned. I didn't worry at all & I did not even consider eating anything other than my plan to eat citrus. I was calm as a cucumber. :) ...Good thing is, I was able to get fruits today with no problem. I took a walk to a local store to see if it was open & it was. I bought some yummy pomelos, grapefruits & oranges. I had a ball today & felt so grateful. Everything felt perfect. Having no fruits & having fruits -all felt fine. I knew whatever was happing would be a good thing as long as I knew what I was committed to, and it was.

Day 6 of 108

Today I will begin eating/juicing citrus only for a few weeks. I feel inspired to do this for two reasons; the first reason is because I have begun a Bikram Yoga 30 Day Challenge, & the last time I participated in this challenge, I got very dehydrated. I feel that staying on a super juicy diet will make the yoga challenge easier & keep me hydrated. The second is because I love my friend Anne's Orange Juice Girl Blog about her mono-diet of orange juice. She also has a fabulous book that I totally recommend. One of the best fruitarian books out there. Anyone who loves fruit or is fruit curious would appreciate & enjoy her book. It's called, "Fruitarianism The Path to Paradise". I learned a lot & was very inspired by what I read.

Today I juiced lots 'n' lots of oranges with a little lemon or lime. I also ate lots of yummy red grapefruits & tangelos. I feel so much better today. I think the last 3 days of sweaty hot yoga (& not drinking enough water or eating enough juicy fruits) had me a bit dehydrated. I'm feeling more loose & happy today. Hydrated cells make a world of difference!
:)

Day 5 of 108 ~ Today I ate;

Red grapefruits
Soaked mango slices
Zucchini noodles with sage sauce
Mixed green salad with the mango-tomato soup recipe for dressing. (-Yum!)
:)

Day 4 of 108 ~ Yesterday I ate;

Soak water from my died mangos
Soaked mango blended w/frozen banana (-So good!)
Raw mango-tomato soup
Raw zucchini noodles with sage-tomatillo sauce
Salad: tomato/bell pepper/onion/lettuce
Durian (-Mmmm... yum.)

*Raw Mango-Tomato Soup Recipe* (serves 4 people) You can also use it a a salad dressing!
If I can remember this correctly, here it is; several medium-large tomatoes, a few scallions whole (top & bottom, without roots), lots of soaked dried mango, a little soaked dried papaya, lime juice, lemon juice, 1/2 an avocado, 1/2 a jalapeno pepper (use less if you don't like hot pepper), some fresh cilantro, a whole red bell pepper & 1/2 of a zucchini. Put everything in the blender & blend until smooth. After that, you can add lots of chopped watercress on top & a few red grape tomatoes for color.

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Day 3 of 108 ~ Today I ate;

Lots of soaked bahri dates (-love drinking their sweet soak water too!)
Red grapefruits
Raw zucchini noodles with sage sauce over chopped red leaf lettuce

* Raw Zucchini Noodles with Sage Sauce Recipe *
I make the zucchini noodles with a noodle maker. You can also use a potato peeler or grater to make the noodles. For the sauce I use a 1 small bunch of fresh sage, the juice of 1 lemon, some scallion whole (the top & bottom) , a few tomatillos, 1/2 pint of red grape tomatoes, about 2 cups of baby spinach leaves, 1-2 hot peppers (I use 1 very small habanero & 1 big jalapeno, but that may be too hot for most people), and 1/4 or more of a Florida avocado. (I like Florida best because they are more water rich than California avocados & they have a sweet taste than combines well in sauces.) Put everything in a high speed blender & blend away. I put the noodles over a bed of lettuce, then add sauce, after that I place some chopped tomato & scallions on top for color.

Day 2 of 108 ~ Today I ate;

Lots of red grapefruits
The same salad as yesterday -Oof! ate way too much of it. It's was so good.
Ugh, then ate too many bahri dates later that evening! -Oof, oof, full belly. Too much food!
Everything was so good & my emotions were running high today. Not a good combo, definitely combo-a-bombo! Don't eat your emotions! -I must write a note to self; "When feelings feel like too much, breathe, think light & feel loved". Doesn't that sound way more yummy than food? I must remember that.

Day 1 of 108 ~ Today I ate;

Big salad with lots of veggie-fruits & a super yummy cilantro-avo-basil-jalapeno-tomato dressing

Today was fabulous. Today is day 1 of my 108 days of fruits & leafy greens (the re-start date). Starting again today. Yesterday I had my last dinner eating together with my sister. I told her that  it's be for me to stay away from salt & things that taste yummy, but bloat me. I totally understand that others may digest gourmet raw or salts really well, but I don't. The next morning my face & hands are totally swollen. I's always tasty & fun while I eat it, but the next day (or days) I suffer for it. So being back to the fruity-leafy salt free plan today feels quite good. Feels like home. :)

Yesterday I ate;

Grapefruits & oranges
Canistel
Endive
Big salad with mixed fruit-veggies
Raw 'sandwich' at Rockin' raw with my sister (-The last fancy meal while she is here.)

One new super great thing that I am experiencing since cleaning up my diet is; eating leafy greens plain! (-Yay!) I can eat endive, lettuce, etc., just plain, leaf by leaf as a meal. I was never able to do that before. I always needed something sweet, fatty or salty to put with them. Now I love them & crave them as they are. For the bitter, sweet, soft or strong taste they may have. Their crunchy texture & water rich leaves gives me such pleasure. The simple things in life can be so sweet. Simplifying your diet is like magic. This is why I continue to steer myself in that direction. There is much bliss to be experienced there. By letting go of a few old habits, you gain so much freedom & newness in return. I have to remind myself of this sometimes. It takes time to develop & see. I'm working on it. :)

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Today I ate;

Ugh, it's getting worse. I ate too much today too. -And! I ate nuts. They are not on the 101 day fruity-leafy diet program. This week my sister is here visiting from California (-first trip to hang-out with me for a week in 14 years!). She wanted to try healthy raw friendly restaurants so that I have something I can order (that isn't cooked), she also wanted to try this raw restaurant called Rockin' Raw in Brooklyn for lunch, because it has Peruvian dishes (-we are half Peruvian, our other half is German). Anyway, we went, I ordered food too and bam, ....went off the diet. (-Eeek.) She loved it so much, she wants to go there for dinner before she leaves New York. (-Eeek again, more tempatation, cause the food was yummy!) I will take her back there on Wednesday or Thursday night before she goes.

Black Sapotes
Blended dates & water
Raw hummus & flax chips
Raw spicy sauce on zucchini noodles
Raw nori rolls with veggies inside

I think what I will do is start the challenge again after this week. I really want to go for a least a 100 days and follow it through to feel the progress & the difference. I don't want to mix it up with other raw foods or salt. If I do that, I will never know how good I can feel on just fruits & leafy greens. I really want to see what that would be like. So, after this Friday, (that is when my sister leaves), I will begin again & go 108 days -straight! No flub ups, no special occasions, tryin' it once again. Goin' for the long haul. -XO!

[The pic above is not from the restaurant, but looked similar.]

Yesterday I ate;

Red Grapefruits
LOTS of soaked Bahri dates
Raw squash noodles w/ cilantro-tomato sauce
BIG mixed herb salad w/ cranberry-corn medley & grape tomatoes on top
Planin cucumbers & grape tomatoes
-Agh! I ate too much yesterday. I did it for fun. Just eating away as I was spending time with my sister. I ate when I was hungry -and- I ate with her when she was hungry. -Bad idea! ;) Too much! But everything was yummy. No complaints about that! It was a tasty day.
