I'm Off Again...

I'm going camping! 

I'm not sure if there will be internet access where I'm going. If there is I'll tell you what I'm eating. If not, I'll see you when I return. I'll be back on Thursday the 5th. I've packed my gear with lots of dried raw goodies like; mango, dates, mulberries, figs & gojis. I hope I can find some fresh fruits & salads in the town there. I won't get my hopes up high, but my fingers are crossed. I'll keep you posted...

Burgundy plum (-just one)
Medjool dates
Dandelion salad w/peanut-lemon-carrot dressing
= 2000 calories, at least..

Even though what I ate today sounds good. It wasn't really what I wanted. I was on the go like crazy all day. I grabbed the healthiest things I could. I would have preferred mangoes, lots of mangoes. Mmm...   Oh well. I'm still grateful I got lots of good stuff to eat.

Lunch at FreeFoods (<---I'm still over doing it with gourmet raw foods! I had lots of mixed salads & mushroom dishes for lunch. I'm sure it was high in calories too. Lots of nutty sauces.)

I can't believe I've been eating so many savory green salads & so much raw gourmet this summer. This is fruit season! Why am I not eating TONS of juicy fruit & having a ball? Instead I'm paying lots of money & getting lots of minerals from all the earthy food I'm eating. Oh well. I guess it's all good. The most important thing is to enjoy whatever it is we chose. I can't complain. Everything I've been eating has been great.)

Dinner at Pure Food & Wine (<--Wow! I had the works.  Green veggie juice w/ginger, zucchini noodles with a nut-creme sauce, some sort of mushroom dish & a peach cobbler dessert! My friend had the lasagna, a salad & a strawberry short cake. We had fun. It was a nice dinner.)
= Calories? I have no idea. :)

Aimee is still in Chicago...


Quick Update: Yes, I'm still here. I've been eating LOTS of green salads. (-Guacamole & hummus has also been on the menu.) I even found a Mediterranean restaurant that was raw! I also had the pleasure of fruit shopping in Chinatown. (-I found Durian! Yay! How lucky can I be?) So far so good in Chicago. I still think the 'raw scene' is much tastier & much stronger in New York City. I will be home soon & be back to my daily updates. More soon.. LOVE, -A.

Aimee is in Chicago!

This week I am in Chicago. Today I ate a Karens, a famous raw food restaurant here in Chicago. I had lots of gourmet raw. Everything was really tasty. But a little too salty & nutty for me. (I think I am becoming overly sensitive to salt & nuts/fats. My palate is changing.) I pushed a lot of the nuts to the side & didn't eat them, but even though I removed the nuts I still felt really full after the dinner. I think this is because the sauces also had nuts in them. It is a great restaurant. I recommend it. They also have a really great store next door that sells lots of beauty supplies, herbs, raw dishes & books. I will go back this week to try the food there. It looked a little different from the restaurant. I will try to update & tell you what I am eating here in Chicago. I'm not sure if I will be able to do it daily. Hang in there. I'll be back. w/ lemon-tahini dressing (<-- OK, now I'm getting board of this greens & dressing combo. But I keep eating it because it's easy. Plus, I really need to go fruit shopping. I'm leaving for a trip, so I can't buy too much right now. I'm keeping the kitchen bare so I can just take off when I'm ready. 
= 1600 calories for the day

Yesterday
2 liters of water
Banana-strawberry smoothie
Wildly organic greens chopped in a salad (<-- Wow! Super fresh dandelion & watercress from a local garden in my neighborhood!) with lemon-tahini dressing & avocado on top
Dinner with a friend at Souen (<-- I had the summer rolls & the veggie of the day; squash)
Raw tamarind
= 1350 calories for the day
Wow, things didn't add up to much. Especially the tamarind. They are only 5 calories each! Plus I noticed that I didn't want to eat a really big salad today. The local greens were really hearty & filling. Totally different from the lettuce & dandelions I buy at the store.

Ahhh.. much better today. I had mostly fruit & a little bit of fat (sesame seeds) in my salad dressing. Plus plenty of greens. It was a good day.

Lots of gourmet raw foods. <--I went bananas at FreeFoods. Not the good kind of bananas (like fruit), I mean the bad kind (like over doing it). I ate too many complex gourmet dishes. All were tasty. But heavy on the stomach.

OK, I'm officially over the heavy fat phase. I'm missing my low-fat fruity salads with greens & I'm missing days of nothing but fruit. Time to switch up & go back to what works. I still want to eat lots of greens. Even keep up this dandelion love affair I have going on. But I've got to eat more fruits & less fat. The fat has been creeping up & up. Time to reel it back in.

Believe it or not I am STILL eating huge dandelion salads almost everyday. I'm seeing a big difference in my skin. I really think these dandelions are cleaning house for me. I'm feeling really good these days. I'm going to keep eating them until I get interested in something new. Let's see how long the dandelion (& kim-chi!) craze will last...

I don't know why, but I'm on a huge kimchee phase right now. First it was dandelion, now it's kimchee. I have been really veering off the original diet plan of mostly fruits, green juices & smoothies. This weekend I will look into it & re-align myself with my goals. I definitely feel great eating lots-n-lots of salads. So I will keep it on the menu. I just want to be clear with myself about what I'm doing & where I am headed.

I ate way too much fatty foods today. At Free Foods I had a collard greens wrap & a taco that I'm sure had lots of nuts. Plus I had avocado & tahini dressing. So I really over did it today.

Dandelion salad with non-sweet fruits & tomato-tahini dressing
Green salad w/tahini-dill dressing at a Japanese restaurant
Black currants <-- Wow! So good.
Black raspberries  <-- Really good too.

I ate too much avocado & pre-made salad dressings on the two salads I ate today.  Not a good idea. Plus, not enough bang for my buck. Lots of calories, but not lots of nutrients. Thank goodness I ate lots of greens & veggies.

Yesterday

Mangoes
Medjool dates
Fresh figs (-with some sort of glaze on top)
Green salad (-with dressing)
Stuffed raw tomato (-dried fruits & veggies inside)
= ? not sure about total calories for the day
I went to a wedding. The bride & groom were sweet enough to have the caterers make me a special raw meal for me. Wow! I felt so loved. I also felt so proud of myself for sticking to low-fat raw food while celebrating July forth & being at a wedding. No wedding cake for me, just lots of sweet fruits & fresh veggies.
